Broccoli sprouts are delicious and super easy to grow! Not to mention packed full of sulforaphane, which I first learned about from Ph.D. Rhonda Patrick (in depth video) when I watched her on PowerfulJRE. I was instantly intrigued.
I have purchased a variety of different sprouts over the years at the grocery, but had never thought about growing them myself. Now I grow them once or twice a month, depending on what I’m eating. My favorite way to eat them is mixed in with a salad or on top of a sandwich. I do not recommend blending them into a smoothie (perhaps I put too many in😝🤢).
All you need is a mason jar with a drain lid and some broccoli sprouting seeds. I usually do 2 jars at once, simply repeat the process with a second jar if you’d like to do so as well.
Start off by adding 2 tablespoons of broccoli sprouting seeds to mason jar.
Fill with a few inches (1-1 ½ cups) of filtered water and cap with the sprouting lid.
Cover with a towel and keep in a warm, dark place overnight. (I used my kitchen cabinet.)
The next morning, drain the liquid off and rinse with fresh water. Be sure to drain off as much water as you can, then set the jar back in dark cabinet upside down in a container to ensure all the water drips out. Also keep covered if you frequently open your pantry door and let a lot of light in.
Repeat this 3-4 times a day. After a few days, the seeds will start to break open and grow. When the sprouts are about an inch or so long and have yellow leaves, move them into the sunlight. (I place them on my kitchen window seal.)
Continue to rinse them 3-4 times a day until the leaves are dark green. I took a video to show you how I rise (and shake!). This was done on the 6th day of growing them.

It’s fun to look back and watch the progress of something growing. The whole process will take about a week. Once they are ready, replace the sprouting lid with a standard mason jar lid, or pour into Tupperware, and keep in them in the refrigerator. 👍

- Rectangular Tupperware* (something to set jar(s) in to catch drippings)
- Kitchen towel (something to cover seeds to keep dark)
